re: 30-31 headlights on eBay auction for the free speech fund

...moved into new Free Speech Parts Auctions forum.

MARTINSR makes a good point about keyword research, although, IMO, powerrodsmike is also correct about watching for keyword stuffing. There are plenty of online tools you can use to extrapolate lists of relevant keywords, see which keywords and keyphrases people use most ("headlamp" or "headlight", etc.), and even track various other metrics. With the right set of data, you can even tell whether those who search for "headlamp" are more or less likely to purchase than those who search for "headlight".

Sometimes words or punctuation like "the" or "w/" are stopwords, sometimes not.

We can advertise these auctions around the site, and send traffic to them.

re: 30-31 headlights on eBay auction for the free speech fund

I'll bet in Australia, just saying that you were a keyword stuffer could get you in a fight in any bar. In San Francisco, that could be a pickup line.

I read that wiki article Jon, good one.

That is a well taken point about adding keywords, and I came up with a way to modify my parts descriptions while keeping with my moral obligation to not mislead prospective buyers.

I will add the line to all of my forthcoming auctions: "Buy and install this part and you may get more SEX"

Later, mikey

re: 30-31 headlights on eBay auction for the free speech fund

OK eBay bumped my auction, so I'll list them back on here.
I believe that F&J had them bid up to 30.00, and if he wants to continue, so do I.

Original item description..
1 pair of original 1930 -31 model A headlights with early "Electroline" brand sealed beam conversion. Conversation peice on your rat rod, hot rod, jalopy or traditional. Stamped "Ford Twolite headlamp" on top. some small dings, nothing big. Bolts and swivels are in good shape, Sealed beam lights condition unknown. Original nickel plating is 78 years old ,with normal wear from use and cleaning, but it is not rusted or flaking.

All proceeds from auction go to the fund, less shipping and Ca sales tax if applicable.

Later, mikey

re: 30-31 headlights on eBay auction for the free speech fund

after 10-29-08 all bidder names even the winning bidder is scrambled.

Ebay does not want people to know who is buying or bidding on what for any reason. They also cut the number of days, from 90 to 30 to search for like item, prior sales. They want everything hidden.

Most guys are emailing the sellers for contact info, on high dollar/unique items to make the purchases direct.

Other sellers are listing the stuff for very high reserves to get a list of interested buyers then contacting them direct after the items do not sell..

The days of high interest bidding wars, fair/high priced selling on Ebay are long gone, never to return, for the used parts sellers...

Parts sellers now have much better success searching for the particular web groups that like or work with their car/parts and post them on their websites.

That's your opinion. Personally I don't agree with a word of it.

re: 30-31 headlights on eBay auction for the free speech fund

That is great centerline eBay likes people you. How many eBay transactions do your opinions cover?

I sold a set of rockerarm cores last week, but they did not have welded stands, for 150 and paid nothing to eBay, just answered the telephone call. (guy saw my comment here, about having stands)

So that would be my personal experience, along with the general consensus of many large volume powersellers, over the last 10 years on eBay.

OHD, either bid on those headlights or get off this auction thread.
We don't want or need your advice and don't care if you sold one of your super rare unobtainum Keith Black cotter pins for a million dollars .

You're what's known as a taker. All you do is take take take and give nothing in return. You are condescending towards the other members and the mods have had more than one discussion about your attitude. Frankly this place would be better off without people like you.

I have been selling and buying on e-bay for almost 10 years without a single problem. Like I said before, you have your uneducated opinion about e-bay and I have my experienced opinion.

As far as donating to the cause, put up or shut up.

TwoLites for my '31

You guys are a trip. I could care less about ebay politics. I have been buying and selling for fun for a few years and regardless of obvious changes, its still a decent option. (One of many) The headlamps are my real interest. Are they still available? Gotta '31 Ford rat with a need...and oh yeah, money for any good cause is $ well spent.

re: 30-31 headlights on eBay auction for the free speech fund

Well, I boxed them up, and already created a UPS shipment for those headlights, ( the shipping to torrance, ca has already been paid..hint, hint)
And I sent a PM with payment info to flashback customs a few days ago.
I'm waiting on his payment, as soon as I get it they will ship.

It is the holidays, and I'll give it a few more days before I sell them to someone else.

Later, mikey
