28 spline posi unit..what axles?

Ok im putting in a new posi unit into my cousins car but come to find out its a 28 spline. His axles are a 26 spline. What other cars can I get 28 spline axles that will work with his 7.5 10 bolt? I was doing some research but came up empty handed. I was thinking maybe a blazer or s10 would work but how would I know what axles they have? His car is a Monte carlo as well.

Thanks for the help.

Ps where can I find out info on how long axles are?

&.5's came with 26 spline axles (early) or 28 spline axles (late)! If the unit is brand new, I would just return it to get the one that you need! Keep in mind, the 26 spline axles are smaller and weaker (that is why GM upgraded to the 28's) I believe that I have seen DoubleVision post that the firebird and camaro's have the same length axles as the monte's but you might P.M. him for that information!

Thanks for the reply oddrodder. I am trying to find out if the camaro and monte are the same length if they are I will just get some axles from a wrecking yard. I think my cousin got the unit from ebay not sure though so we will work with what he has.

Thanks.

searched for the info thanks a bunch

OK I found out the 82-87s are the same length but are 26 spline. But I also found out the new camaros/firebirds are 28 spline. Are they the same length as the 82-87 version?

EDIT :

I found out the newer axles are about an inch longer so they will not work. What other axles can I look for that that are 28 spline and will work?

EDIT #2

OK OK im dumb and answered my own question after a lot of researching.
You can basically make a 7.5 10 bolt as strong as an 8.5 10 bolt. What you need is a 28 spline posi unit from a new camaro/firebird. And axles from a 88-97 s-10 blazer 4x4. The axles are 1/2" longer on each end but can easily be trimmed down and used for the 7.5 10 bolt.

notes:
stock 7.5 axles from a g body are 28.5" long (26 spline)
stock s10 blazer axles are 29" long. (28 spline)

I think that you will find that the 28 spline axles in the camaro-firebird are the same length as the 26 splines up to 92' models. The longer axles that you found would be alittle more envolved than simply trimming the ends (unless you plan to use C-clip eliminators) The groove for the c-clip would have to be cut also! Send a P.M. to M&M Customs or DoubleVision about your problem, they surely have more answers than I do!!
