302/327 Question

Hey guys, I have a 302/327 and can't quite figure this one out. The motor came out of a 64 Inpala with a powerglide/4bbl. Casting on the block is 3892657, The head casting is 3890462, and the Suffix code is V032IXXB. Definately a B, not an E. So my question is: what exactly is this thing? Thanks in advance!

3892657....302.....67....2...Z-28 Camaro
3892657....327.....67....2
3892657....350.....67....2...Camaro
I find no codes that are XXB. The only thing close is XB, which comes out as a 1969 350 and that wouldn`t be it, as 67 engines were small journal, 69 were large journal. Is the crank still in the engine? If so what are it`s casting numbers?

Same here except I thought the '67 350 was a large journal engine. Either way the engine code isn't matching up with the casting numbers. The heads come back as '66-'67 302/327/350 so those don't narrow it down much. I'd say it's a '67 but which one???? Whichever it sounds like a good find.

I guess I am down to pulling the pan and checking the crank numbers. I will post as soon as I pull the pan. I know the XXB is strange. I have scrubbed and scrubbed making sure I am looking at it correctly. Thanks guys!

I'd bet the XXB engine code indicates a replacement block. Maybe the original 327 that came in the '64 Impala was replaced under warranty in '67 (Chevy warranties were generally 3 year/36,000 miles back then)and that would explain how a '67 vintage block got inta a '64 car... JA

This is what I came across. It's not XXB. It's XE
64 Impala L-74 327CID/ 300HP, 4-brl, Power glide, Service Replacement Engine
That engine had to be replaced with a later model. It could be a 67 327 engine.
The 462 Heads do match a 327/ 300hp. There 1.94 intake, 1.50 Ex. 64CC fuelie Heads. No Acc Holes.
