stroker crank, but it won't perform like a normal 327 because of the small bore. Not worth the effort.

if you are looking for power but not suck the gas get something different than a 305 as they have small bores and then all you have to do is stay out of the gas!!! gas milage is a strong reflection of how you drive.

Sorry Bud I Can'st keep my Foot out of it.That IS the way i drive. I naturally PUSH a Vehicle. Maybe when I'm 80? P.S. They're HAPPIER that way! killerformula Since all the SBC's are supposed to be Basically the same, can't the 305 be Bored out? |

no, the walls of the bores wouldn't make it past .060 over. A 327 has a 4" bore, a 305 has something like a 3.878 or some crap like that. That's over a tenth of an inch, it would never happen.
honestly I wouldn't swap a 305 for a 327. 327 is a much better performance mill, but for 20 cubes i wouldn't bother with all the work. Go for a 383 or something... just my opinion- K |

I dont really get what you are after here. Changing a 305 to the same displacement as a 327 doesn't mean you'll get 327 performance and 305 mileage. If anything you'll be lacking the performance of the 327 but approaching similar gas mileage of it.

Its confusing, but here's how the different engines relate to each other (I think!):
265 = 3.750/3.000 B/S = Grandaddy!! 283 = 3.876/3.000 B/S = bored 265 302 (NOT 305) = 4.001/3.000 B/S = bored 283 and a sweet little screamer it was!! 307 = 3.876/3.250 B/S = stroked 283 327 = 4.001/3.250 B/S = 302 bore/307 stroke 350 = 4.001/3.484 = stroked 327 With a few exceptions, you can see how you could switch back and forth among this family. The rest of the mouse family are pretty unique: 305 = 3.750/3.484 = 265 bore/350 stroke 262 = 3.671/3.100 267 = 3.500/3.484 = best forgotten 400 = 4.126/3.750 = about as big as production could go with the original 265 geometry. Hope this helps, Dave |
