305 build up cam suggestions

Im building a 305 for my sons 85 camaro, I want it to get off its *** but I dont want it to pass everything but a gas station. I am considering the following combination, eliminating all the emissions crap smog pump egr and fan clutch etc including eliminating the the factory computer distributor and computer controlled carb (throttle position sensor only on carb ) putting the following in new motor bored .030, 416 heads with 58 cc chambers and 1.94/1.50 valves ( factory is 1.84 on these heads but Im having them changed out and worked somewhat ) new intake either ZZ4 or edelbrock, new HEI distributor, new electric fan and shorty headers with a 2 " dual exhaust with flow masters, my dilema is in the cam I am considering the COmp cams 300+ nostalgia cam with 12-670-4 power range 1000-5500 with duration @.050 211/218 valve lift @ 1.5 / 1 426/420 and lobe seperation 112 degrees, for that classic sound and response

I want this to be a daily driver for him as I said so I want the combination of improved performance and still somewhat of good gas mileage I am installing a vaccum modulated lock up for the TH 700R4 so it still has the overdirve I just am not sure what cam to put in the car I have had the L69 cam suggested as well any suggestions? Im a bit of an old school pre-70's rodder and this one has me stumped, I never had to worry about gas mileage, but like I said its for my son and its his baby an 85 Berlinetta

I appreciate the input

Building the motor with a static compression ratio of between 9.0 and 9.3 should work well with that 12-670-4 cam, which closes the intake valve at 28.5 degrees ABDC. That'll put the dynamic compression ratio somewhere between 8.2 and 8.5 on the Keith Black calculator, the only one I use. I'd make sure the main bearing bore is straight and round and that the block decks are the same from the centerline of the main bearing bore on all four corners. Set the squish at 0.035" to 0.045".

I don't know your gear, but I would get a smaller cam for a 305. about 10 degrees smaller. and since you are going to a regular carb, use 110 lsa (better signal for the carb).

I would also keep the factory cooling fan setup.

Long tube headers would be better.

2 inch exhaust is kind of small and has no room to grow. I would use 2-1/4 pipe.

Flowmasters don't flow that well. They flow about the same as as a dynomax super turbo muffler but at 2 or 3 times the volume level. If you want flow and volume then get a set of hooker aerochambers plus they are a little quieter than the flowmaster.

Keep your eyes open for a complete 96 to 2000 350 vortec engine with a factory roller cam. Should be able to get one for less than $700 in good shape. These engines make 300 hp with a set of headers, aftermarket intake and carb, using the stock roller cam.
