Post 305 Cutlass Supreme

Hi I recently bought a 1983 cutlass supreme with a stock 305 4bbl with a stock tranny and rear gears.
I want to know the stock HP of this 305 in this car and the type of tranny and also the rear gears ratio.
I've been searching for this info for about 4 months, but nobody seems to know much about Oldsmobiles in my home town. <img src="graemlins/sweat.gif" border="0" alt="[sweat]" />

I think the stock 305 LG4 was 170 horsepower, and I'm not sure what gear ratio you would have, let's just say, they are very highway orientated, probably 3.08s or even higher. The transmission is probably a 200 metric with lockup, could be a 350C, three speed with lockup or 200r4 overdrive, but not sure. Don't hold me to any of this stuff, the only thing i'm sure of is the engines didn't have enough horsepower, the rear gears were too high, and the transmissions were too slushy.

That 170 horse power is for a 350. I think that the 305 is around 140 horse power. I don't think that the overdrive tranny came out until 84 for the Cutty so you might have a 250C lock up tranny. I bet Red Rocket is correct that the gears are 2.41s. I have an 81 Cutty that had a 6 cylinder and a 250C in it with 2.41 gears that I bought in 1986. Since then I put a Camaro 3.23 posi in it for a hundred bucks, a 200r4 overdrive and now a 455 motor. Every modification that I made went easier than I anticipated. I don't know what your plans are for your car but a 305 is even easier to deal with. Shorty headers are dirt cheap and using them will result in nothing hanging below the auto. Plus a Camaro transverse muffler fits perfectly and sounds nice and mello with out being too loud (I run a Hooker muffler with twin tail pipes). If you don't have an overdrive, you can get one easily and cheap, it's the only way to go. I believe that the 80s Cuttys' are going to be the 55 Chevy of the new millenium. They made a bizzillion of them. For the most part they are clean and well cared for and motors from Chevys to Cadillacs' will fit in them. Plus, they give a smooth quiet ride. I love cruising with the smooth jaz playing running about 2100 rpm at 75 miles an hour and bearly hearing the 455 drowning in the background. Good luck with your Cutty!
