Post 305 distributor

I am getting ready to install a 305 in my car and notice there is no vacumn advance on the distributor. I see no evidence on one having ever been there. It seems like 305 distributors are different and i saw this post before, but can't find it. Can anyone help.

thanks

[quote]All spark timing changes in the 1981 distributors are done electronically by the ECM. No vacuum or mechanical advance is used.

I got this from my old camaro chilton manual. It says that their electronic distributors only had vacuum advance from 1975 to 1980. Maybe the distributor you have is 1981 or newer. Just a guess, don't do much chevy work.
If this info is correct I would want a '75 to '80 distributor so my timing is controlled correctly without a ECM. I know on Fords we always look for the old Duraspark system for this reason.

you got a coputer controlled distributor...which means it probably also has a coputer controlled carb..( no screws for adjustment and a plug with if i remember correctly 4 or 5 wires on the carb...my advise:; go get yourself an older non computer carb and dist.
