Im looking to buy a 92 tpi camaro rs with a 305. my question is arent all tpi motors high output? the eighth digit says its not its got a single cat and a factory 2and a half in ex pipe. can someone please anwser this question.
The Camaros and Firebirds of that era that came with a TPI did have the most horsepower and torque of the 305 combinations that came in those cars. That said, you can expect 205-225 horsepower from a stock TPI 305.
Camaros and firebirds had somewhat unique exhaust, as for the most part, it was one pipe, and had a fairly angled path to the back of the car.
You'd be better off finding a camaro with a 350 TPI. The TPI units are the same for the most part, but the extra 35 cubes will certainly help you out later on.
Better yet, find yourself a 94 or later camaro with the LT1. They have great potential as well, and can be had for under 4 grand.
thanks for the info Siggy, helps a lot, by the way this is a rs, ive never seen one either in tpi, and its the original engine in the car also. thanks again
25th Anniversary package??? Look in my album,Dads 92 Z28 TPI engine(littl one) He wanted the stick and they did not offer it behing the 350 TPI. 25TH Anniversary
no anv package, just a rs with t tops, auto, z/28 appearence package, spoilers and ground effects. but all the numbers say
its just a plain jane camaro, ill be the second owner, and i know the first owner well, its just a oddball car. its also got 3.42 gears
and its all factory equipment.... maybe i just got lucky......
and maybe its a 350........ and maybe pigs will fly......and......
305 HO's were only availible in 84 they were amazing motors for a 305...if Chevy was smart they'd do that work in a 350 but you know how that goes. other than that stock for stock they own Monte SS's :-D

Unless someone has swapped motors AND a rear end, you have a Z28. In 92, a Z28 model came out that had a 305TPI and a 3.42 rear end ratio. Is the 8th digit of your VIN "F"? This will signify that it was the LB9 engine . . . a TPI 305.
the car has all the appearence package of a z/28 but its badged a rs. maybe its just a special order that my friend picked up, i aint got a clue, car is still at his house, and i wont be picking it up for a few days, it runs well, shifts like a bear is after it, really hard, and will move on down t he road. hope i find out its really
a police car in disguise. the main reason im picking this car up is the price, i just cant lose. its never been wrecked and he swears its just like he bought it
You can get the 25Th anniversary in a RS,It will have the badge on the right dash panel. It does not have to have the spoiler or the hood package to be the 25TH. Does seem like a good deal. I had a 3RD gen,and I get to drive the Z to the local shows and whenever I feel. They are great fun, handle well.
thanks for the info, i know old school stuff, never really wanted a injected car, my 2nd gen t/a is quick enough, so this one will be my just ride around and get to work car, you know cold a/c, stereo, and low key stylin heheh.
Injection is the way of the future. I have a 66 gmc with a TPI on it. I love it. There at a lot of mods and upgrades for it and you'd be suprised at what they can do. However, if you plan on upgrading the car, Id first look at putting a 350 or larger under that TPI.
The 305 Ho had a hotter cam a 795 q jet a aluminum intake and much better heads then the regular 305
I say get a camaro with a blown 2.8 or something and swap in a 350 and th350 then you dont have to deal with the New fangled Bs problems you will encounter none of the third gen camaros had a strong tranny with and decent power you will blow it apart
Tpi needs many upgrades before its viable for High performance
Tbi is just a waste of time
The best and cheapest option is to get the cheapest roller in decent shape you can get and put a 350 in or buy one that has had that already done
