re: 305 intake bolts

Is this a carb'd intake or TBI?

On the carb'd version, there are 6 bolts on each side of the intake. The 4 corner holes do NOT enter the oil area. The rest do! If you are missing bolts, you will have a mess on your hands, not to mention vacuum leakes.

Most definitely! If not those holes go right in the the lifter valley which would be where the oil is coming from. You should put some rtv on the threads for those bolts.

re: 305 intake bolts

yea well on the driver side in the middle, the front one is broken off in the block and the one after that is missing, oil is coming out of that. on the passenger side in the middle the first one is missing and not so much oil is coming out of that one as the drive side is then the next one is broken off in the block. i just tried to screw new bolts into the block and i cant get them started. the intake hole isint really lined up with the block on the driver side. is there any way i can just stick some rtv in those holes for now untill i replace the intake with an after market one and just tap those ones out?

re: 305 intake bolts

wow, that's a tough call. Personally, I'd be concerned with vacume leaks and leaning out and burning a piston. You really need to remove the intake and remove the broken bolts. They should come out easy since they are in an oily enviroment. Just don't try to drill them UNLESS you use reverse twist bits. If you can't get them out easily, get some help. You don't need metal shavings in the engine or broken drill bits ruining your chances of removing them safely.

well if i will be tryign to get a new intake in a few weeks what would you do for the time being? since its a dayly driver could i just stick some rtv in it and stop the vacum leak? and could it also blow out the intake gasket over time?

re: 305 intake bolts

You could try to seal up the holes FOR A SHORT TERM fix. As far is it leaking vacuum, it may or may not. Is it running ok other wise? or missing at idle a lot?

re: 305 intake bolts

the only think it is doing at idle is its going up and down very little. i dont know how many rpm's difference since i dont have a tack but it only sounds like maybe 500-800 rpms difference. sometimes it does it and sometimes it dont
