305 into 283?
i have an early 283 in a truck. i have the heads off already and i have some empty 305 heads(no valves).
will the valves go in the 305 heads? and will they work on the engine? it has flat top pistons with 4 valve relief.

the 305 heads are probably 1.86 or 1.94 intake valves. The 283 is probably equiped with smaller 1.74s?.
You can bring your casting #s and that would really really help...but a short answer is: The heads will work but the valves(9/10) will not swap.

Try them & see. Standard 305's had 1.75" valves, the HO's had 1.84's, & none that I know of had 1.94's.
