I recently came across an olds 307 that was in a delta 88 and I am wanting to put it in a pretty big heavy 4x4 chevy. I know I need an adapter plate to bolt the motor to trans and the starter is on opposite side and there are a few other mounting differences but will the torque converter bolt up? will the 307 have enough power to move and operate a 4x4 trans? the truck has stock gears and regular size tires that came on 16.5 rims i think 30-31" tall?

I just dont want to waste time and money on all the stuff to swap it and the darn thing not move.

I searched through the forum but couldnt find anything exactly like my situation.

"Pretty big heavy 4x4 Chevy" Doesn't give us a clue on year/trans in vehicle.

In general, a GM V-8 convertor will bolt to various GM V-8 engines.

You won't like the engine after the install. Better to use a 305 Chevy and a lot less work..

If you are going to do an engine swap, get something that would make it worth your while....Big block Olds, Buick, Caddy. They have the torque that you are looking for. ......Cheapest would still be a Chevy which bolts right in

My question would be, is this 307 going to bolt to the transmission. You didn't mention the type of tranny this truck has. I always liked the 307 olds better than the 305 chevrolet, but they were not good for alot of tq.

its basically a 77 chevy truck 3/4 ton not sure of the exact type of trans and the motor would be a 85 307. I tried to upload pics of what im working with, I didnt want to say exactly what i was working on but here it is

I've did some crazy cross over in my younger days, so i'm not sure how you are boltilng that 307 to the original 77 tranny unless you got a bop tranny. I must be missing something. I've seen a olds in a 55 chevy but it was with a olds tranny. If you get it to work, more power to you. If its a toy, i'd recommend lower gears because your going to lack TQ.

you can use the OLDS if the truck had an original diesel engine,but why

is it a mid 60,s Chevy 307 if so it will fit to any chevy bell housing

,,Not from what the heading says look at original post ,OLDS 307 IN A 4X4 CHEVY .i know chevy had a 307 and olds did also .Olds 307 used bpo bolt pattern sane as early diesel (converted olds engines ) chrve 307 shared sane bolt pattern as all sbc engine dont know about sb2 or ls engines
