31 model a coupe

I purchased a power window kit from electric-life EL02 power window co. I called the rep first to ask if this would fit in my door. He told me he heard of people installing in a 31. I received the unit and tried to install it without too much mod. I found that there is not enough room in the door. Has anyone installed this kit in a 31? Also has anyone mounted bear claw latches in the door. Any help will be appreciated. Don.

There just int enough room to clear the window. I put the bear claw in the door post and put the striker in the door. With the solenoid lower in the door post, or below the "B" pillar. Even that doesn't look very good IMO. In fact, before its all said and done I will probably do something else. I can post a pic or two if you would like?

Thanks for the info. Yes, I did see someone else put the latches in the B pillar. It looked like it would work fine, but I guess not. Please post pictures. Do you have power windows? If so, please pictures also. Thanks again. Don

Here are a couple of pics that show what my solution the the problem was. Im still undecided as far as the windows being powered by electricity, or elbow. Hope this helps... Bob

Specialty power windows has a bolt in kit specifically for a Model A.
http://www.specialtypowerwindows.com/modelAfords.htm

I've used the slimline rotary latches in model A s and Ts..

http://www.allegiscorp.com/DisplayPa...t+Slam+Latches

Many of the replica body manufacturers are selling that latch these days as well as some of the street rod specialty houses.

later, mikey

Thanks everyone for the replies. Good job on the bear claw latches. Yes, I have seen the power window setup for the model a specifically. I just didn't want to pay that much. I guess you get what you pay for. My mistake. I guess what I will do is sell the electric life window kit and buy the model a kit. Has anyone installed the latches from the web site posted in the previous reply? Thanks for everyones reply. Don.

Mikey, do you have any pics with the installation of the slimline latches? Boy that would be a lot of help. Do you mount these in the door or door post? Location would help. Thanks again.

I have no pictures, those slimline latches were installed in the doors of the replica roadster bodies I used to build at Poli-Form. You can call them if you'd like. In your case you should think about putting the latch in the B pillar, as the window mechanism and channels get in the way in a closed car.

The Allegis website I directed you to is one of the main suppliers of hardware to body manufacturers. I posted that link to show the dimensions of the latch ..You may be able to buy from them.

Or I just found out that Tri Mark, the manufacturer of that latch, now sells direct to the public...
