318 build up(or 360)

I have a 1994 Jeep grand Cherokee. I am currently in the process of making this a one of a kind creation. Including insane amounts of custom body work and interior work, and the ever important performance work. I currently have a 318 block in my truck and I wanted to swap it out for a 360, but a couple of mopar guys told me that it would not work dropping a high performance 360 crate into there becuase non of the computers will work, they suggested a 318 build up. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what to do...or...if I could do a 360 performance crate swap and just wire in the basics, nothing special, just what I need to make it fast. I appreciate all input.

Chevy plan

I was going to buy a newer 6 cyl Chev truck and put an old school V8 in it. One wire to the HEI and bypass the computers. I was told it wouldn't work because the newer tranny had computer controls. Might be same way with Mopars.

Best option is a 408 (360 stroked) late model with electronics upgrades.
There are LOT'S of options now day's for the FI motors that weren't avil. a few years back. Just depend's on HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE.

as well as

have lot's of info.
In Mopar Muscle a few issues back, I can look later, A company around Memphis has an add on system that will change ANY aspect of the PCM you want basically. Kinda the "Holy Grail" for us MOPAR late model guy's. Course, It AIN'T cheap.

Thanks Bee4Me, u think that a 408 stroker with a twin screw supercharger might be an option?, also, I wanted to put in a heavy duty manual tranny into it too.

JeepStang94, You should be able to do the 360 swap. There are a few companies that do custom PCM flashes, it might be possible to have the 318 computer flashed to handle the 360. I believe I read that some guys use the early Magnum 92-94 ? computers in swap projects because they do not have all of the monitoring systems of the later Magnums.
You might try www.dodgedakotas.com there are a few on the site that are very knowledgeable, there are also some trolls. It may be worth a look, I think someone there could get you headed in the right direction. I know there are guys there that have stroked their 318's to 390's and I believe they use a flashed 318 computer.
