Wires are crossed/out of correct order, most likely. Or you also got water in the carb, or the distributor was turned accidentally.

What is a "rotor bug"??

You didn't say what engine you have, but Chrysler V8s use the same firing order: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

Big block distributors rotate counterclockwise and small block distributors rotate clockwise.

If the distributor will turn easily- w/o loosening the hold down, I would suspect that to be the problem. You may be able to look at the distributor where the clamp is to see if there's evidence of the distributor having been turned.

The way it sounds, the timing is retarded- IF it was changed. You need to check the timing w/a timing light.

If no timing light, mark the distributor so it can be returned to the exact same position it is now in, before you move it.

Then, turn the distributor a small amount CW if a BB, CCW if it's a SB to slightly advance the ignition timing and see if it helps or not.

But ultimately, you will need to properly time the engine w/a timing light if the distributor has moved.

Good luck.

I see now that the title has the engine size as a 318, so turn the distributor body CCW to advance the ignition timing and see if it helps or not.

That too short edit limit really is getting to be a drag.
