32 Ford 5W coup top
I want to build a metal top on my 32 Ford 5W coup but have the metal recessed so that I can put a fabric panel in the recess. My goal is to look original but with a solid metal top that does not leak. My idea is to glue the faberic to a second metal top with same shap but slightly smaller so it will fit down in the recess. The fabric will be tucked under the edge of the second metal top producing a smooth edge on the fabric which will be even with the top of the car when placed down in the recess. A rubber gasket will be placed under the edge of the insert for a water seal. All the tops I have seen are installed on top of the roof and have a trim or the edge is tucked under in some fashon. Has anyone tryed my idea and if so what did you learn?

There are panels available, already cut and shaped for the 5W roof contour ... for $400. |
