I do not believe that the toque converter is loose. I personally went around it 3 times. Twice when mating the transmission to the engine and once prior to installing. If the torque converter is broken wouldn't that let the clutch plates slip. Any ideas on how I can check it?

When I said broken, I probably should have said failed vane(s). Here's a You Tube video of what is inside . You might find pieces in the tranny oil pan, especially if there's a magnet stuck on the bottom of that pan. Those vanes are usually furnace brazed rather then machined out of a solid hunk of metal. His Aussie accent is a bit difficult - but it is a pretty good video.

The transmission fluid pressure is supplied by the pump which is in the transmission (which engages and holds the clutches), the TQ converter just couples the engine to the transmission. Just because it's mounted correctly and is not loose, doesn't mean it's not damaged internally and out of balance. It can still work but vibrate under load.
