Post 32 roadster chassis

I am trying to work out some details on building a 32 Ford hot rod. I can get a fiberglass body, all steeled out for about $8500 (Aust.dollars) There are repo chassis
boxed, set-up with stainless steel front ends (I beam or independent)for $11500.
I can aford the body with some bucks leftover
But the chassis could be years off. Now to the meat, I have seen a magazine were a 77 Toyota hilux chassis, motor, gearbox, frontend and so on was used to mount a A model body. I have also heard of Nissan pick-ups used in the same way.A Toyota or Nissan pick-up sells for $1500-3500 (aust.$)Kits to fit Chev or Ford V8s to the Toyota trans are also around. Any info or coments on getting a 32 glass body on these chassis would be wecomed. Thanks from sparks

chassis ?

If you are going to spend that much for a body I would carefully check out using a donor chassis ...check out all the measurements,, contour of the frame width etc,,,,If you are going to do full fenders it is not as critical... in the US we can buy new 32 frame rails for $600 up...parts to weld one your self about $1200 (all US ) I plan on doing a channeled frame so I plan on using 2 x 3 or 2 x 4 .188 rect tubing since only the fire wall foreward will show. jag front and rear ... no fenders. Steel tubing and plate about $400 used jag parts $250

spark,

There are dozens on threads on here discussing the use of mini-pickup frames under 20's and 30's bodies. Use the search function (near top of page) and you'll have lots of reading.

I'm with timothale. I'd be very very leery about spending those kinds of bucks on the body and then junking it up with a fairly ugly chassis. I think you'd be much happier and no more in debt by building your own 2x3 ladder type frame. Plenty of these in use under T's and A's so it's a proven and good looking alternative. MUCH less than the 11K you were quoted for a chassis.

I'm with the rest of the guys, why spend $9K on a body then stick a hideous frame under it.....doesn't make sense IMO. At the very least it will devalue your rod tremendously.

'32 roadster chassis

I gotta go with the rest of them, DON"T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

A deuce chassis isn't that hard to build. As cboy said, if you are building a channeled car, the only part you have to be fussy about is from the firewall forward. That leaves a lot of possibilities for the part from the firewall back. Some 2x4 tubing, some 10ga. a couple of crossmembers and you've got it done. Hummmm...I better stop there or I'll have another project!
