32 roof ribs

I have a 32 ford 2 dr sedan that I am going to replace the roof ribs. I have the new wood and wondered if I should seal them before installation.

Also what is left of the old roof has a "trim" piece on the exterior perimeter. What is the best way to remove this? Would I want to salvage it for use when I get the roof panel replaced?

Thanks
l

The original wood in most of the pre 1940 cars was not sealed, but I can't wee why it would hurt it to do so. As for the trim piece I just pried it up very carefully and reused it on my Model A (it was attached with nails). You can buy reproductions of them now though.
