I have been told that all Pontiac (326/350/389/400/455) blocks are the same. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.
About the heads, putting 326 heads on a 400 would be a step backwards. The 400 heads probably flow much better.

I think the point is that even if they bolt on they're not going to flow for a 400. YOu're talking about 74 cubes of difference.

I was told that the valves were the same size and the heads would work .he also said that the #on the heads mattered??the #'s would determine the comp .ratio.

Greg67, the 400 will bolt right in with no problems. As far as the 326 heads the valves are too small and the port configuation will not flow enough for the 400 to breath the way it needs to.What year 400 do you have and what is the casting numbers on the center ports of the heads? In order to make the 326 heads work properly on a 400 would require about $1200-$1600 worth of port and valve work for them to provide adequate flow. My advice is don't worry about trying to use the 326 heads unless you're going to do something with the 326.

326 heads will not fit a 400, one has a 14deg valve angle the other a 17deg angle. sorry, i cant remember which has which.you would have to change to pistons with the correct valve relief in them.
