327 or 350

i have a sbc with the casting #s 3970010 with a 4 bolt main is there any way to tell if its 327 or 350

Measure the stroke.......

Its a 350.....there were no 327s with 4 bolt mains........Of course, this fact has been disputed many times

There should be a suffix code stamped just in front of the passenger side cylinder head. Look that up and it'll tell you what you have. Or you can pull the oil pan off and check the casting number on the crank. Chances are very high that it's a 350 though. The 3970010 casting number was used throughout the 70s.

actually in 1964 there was infact a 4 bolt main 327 suffix code T0221hv it was made specifically for the corvette 350 hp manual trans duel point ignition built in totawan ny

L79 super h output 327 was a rally motor with 7 quart oil pan 4 bolt main look it up engine suffix is t0221hv

I don't need to look anything up to know there was no 4-bolt SJ production SBC engine. 327 or otherwise.
