you don't list any budget.. but well go wit you'd like to use what you have..
are they all large journal mains 327? you don't say if your holley is a vac 2nd carb or a d/p a 327 "shine" is it rpm's to the moon and rev's fast... you'll need a d/p yes you can get a vacuum 2nd carb to work.. most have no clue how to.. you have a 2200 stall, that might be to tight.. the th400 is overkill and will tax your build and steal 40hp , I'd think of use'n a th350.. you only said you want ole school lope, are you just going for sound, or do you want this thing to move.. the camel humps are good heads if this was 1981, today the truck vortecs out flow them.. I'd get a set of vortec heads. either used or new ,depending on your budget.. new they are 330.00 a liitle more if you want a cam with more that .480 lift.. what rear gears in this car.. 2nd genf bodysare not lite.. |

You shouldn't run much cam with 3.42 gears and a 2200 stall.
Will need 3.73 -4.11 gears and a 3000 stall for a "lopey" cam. if you aren't planning to swap gears and stall then consider installing a low buck 383 kit with a cam that will make power just to 6000. Like a compcam 270S. otherwise, a 4.11 gear, 3000 stall, and a cam about the size of a 280S compcam in a 10:1 cr 327 will run nicely. will also need a better intake and carb. I recommend a regular RPM intake and 3310 750 holley. steel or cast crank will not matter under 6500 rpm. Old school camel humps are missing mounting holes for the accessaries. They can be drilled and taped but it isn't ideal. I think you would be better off find a new engine. Look for a complete 350 vortec engine from a 96 to 2000 truck. These engines came with a factory roller cam and vortec heads. should be able to find one for less than $700 and in good enough shape to run will minor engine work. 327
since i have 3x 327 blocks i think i'll use them up.i parked the car in 93 and last year tore it completely apart to fix the minor rust issues.(trunk and front dvrs valance?also turfed the insulation.must a weighed a 100 lbs.lol.the holley is a 600 w/vacuam secondaries, since i have a performer manifold i think i'll get some eddie alum heads.maybe change the gears to 3:73.it'll be a nice day toy.eventually i want to install a 4 speed and as i have 2x t400s,i dont want to buy a t350.

I have a 327 in my Monte SS with the camel hump heads, a 2800 stall and a Comp magnum 292 501 cam. Motor sounds great has nothing out of the hole. Without getting into the whole build I have the 3.73 gears and it needs a 4.10 but I have 4 gears and an overdrive so its doable. My point is don't go nuts with the cam like I did. I just installed a 150ho N.O.S. wet kit that I haven't filled the bottle on yet and I'm going to see how that goes but in the case of a 327 cam less is more. I have no doubt I'll be putting a smaller one in mine. If you go with a 4 or 5 speed it will make that motor much more fun than the t400 will ever be.

I wouldn't get the edelbrock heads. Just use what you have, maybe get some bowl work and a valve job. For a cam keep it under 220 duration a narrow lsa will give you some lope, something like a 215/220 on a 108 would make a nice hot street engine out of what you have. Get long tube 1 5/8" headers. With the light head work you could have a 350hp engine, which is a pretty healthy 327.
