327 camshaft

I have a 327 that I'm in the process of rebuilding. I'm going with 2.02 fuelie heads, DZ aluminum intake, 650 Holley carb, and flat top forged pistons. Just having difficulty choosing a cam. I want a hydraulic cam that will deliver the most performance and that muscle car sound at idle. After reading about the Thumper comp cam it sounds like what I'm looking for. Any thoughts on this cam or other recommendations? Oh ya the rearend is stock and tranny is a powerguilde, but don't want to let them dictate how I build this motor...Plan on making the necessary changes to the tranny and rearend down the road. Thanks, x33

My 331" sbc had 9.52:1 comp, Edelbrock alum. heads, Quickfuel 650 vac carb and I used a Comp Cams XE 262 cam & lifters. It had a very nice rumble and will be a good street cam...but you won't notice how good your engine runs until you change the trans and rear end gears. Make sure you break the engine in properly with the right oil and ZDDP additive.

If you want sound get the Thumper, if you want power get a Voodoo or an Xtreme Energy.
