well i already have a built ready and running 327 so im going to ust that forthe time being untill it goes bye bye. the back up motor would be a 383. but what i was wondering is since i already have a great motor and car which rear gears would give me the most bang for your buck.
oh and there is a replacement... its volumetric efficiency.

If you are serious about the strip usage, go with 4.56's all the way. The first few hundred feet of the track are far more important for a good ET than the last few hundred.

Time lost at the beginning is a lot harder to make up at the far end of the track.

I drove a buddies 67 GTO with 4:56's and a M22 once. Seems like as soon as I let the clutch out in first, it was time to shift again. Wore me out in about the first 10 min. of driving around.

That's when you just start out in second.
