there is nothing wrong with kb pistons. i ran them in my old 327 and i`m running them in my harley as well. when i worked at a speed/machine shop as a kid, we used alot of kb pistons and i never saw a motor fail because of the pistons we used.

as far as the "x" rods go, this is a small journal motor, the x rods are in large journal motors so they will not work in a small journal 327. he did`nt state what he is useing the car for but the combo he listed will be a very good street motor and should give him respecible times at the strip considering the convertables are heavier than coupes/hardtops.

also, there is no need for splayed main caps, especially if he keeps it under 6,000 rpm`s like you suggested. the edelbrock rpm heads are set up for .575 lift so different springs are not needed.

wickster, stick to the combo you listed. you will be happy with it. i don`t know what gears you have but you should use a 3.73 gear and about a 2,400-2,600 stall. these 327`s don`t make much low end torque so you`ll need the gears and stall to get your heavy `vert going.

I agree with 68. I'm in the middle of building a 350 vortec. My only problem is how I'm going to talk my wife into letting me buy another vehicle to put the engine in.

Re-use Performer EPS

Re-use Mallory HEI

I agree with all of the above, except the crab. that will not do you much good at all. Or at least replace the crab you have... give the poor little guy a break.

oh yeah, circletrack62 has got the right idea... can't beat Northern Auto Parts for great budget overhaul kits. definitely worth checking out.

327

I have been racing for a long time and I have always love the 327 and the 302 you can get so many RPM`s out of them if you pick the right cam call up Comp Cams or manufacture of your choice tell them what you are doing and they will tell you what to run they have their fingers on the heart beat

As far as pistons I disagree with the last post I have been using KB`s for years and they have never let me down allot of times the directions are over looked and the ring gap is set wrong tearing the top of the piston off any one I have meet that has had problems with KB`s I have meet they have brought it upon themselves KB is a family run business call them they are a wealth of knollage and they will love helping you

ARP hardware is a must head, rod, main caps, rocker do it all it will be worth it make sure you retap every hole so the your torque specs are on

I would get angle plug heads and take the time to index the plugs when you put them in just mark were the band meets the treads with a sharpie on the white part of the plug and line it up with the intake valve it is free horse power all it takes is time it protects the spark from being put out by the fuel

Coat the headers or rap them up this will help cool the combustion camber which is vary important

Take a look at a throttle body set up with a o2 censer like Holley and others make small cu inch needs good fuel metering

When I do a new project I call the manufactures and ask for the tech guys and do what they say and they love to help its great This way of doing thing has won me allot of races and made allot of happy customers

Hope this helps remember this is only my opinion but it has worked for me

Have Fun Sean
