Just starting to scope out and budget an engine rebuild for my '65 Chevelle convertible. Engine is a bone stock "66 327-250hp with the exception of an Edelbrock EPS manifold, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb and Mallory HEI. Now, I am going to rebuild this winter and here is what I am thinking....
Stock Crank Keith Black Silvolite Flat Top Pistons (9.5:1) Stock Connecting Rods Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads (#60899), 64cc, Straight Plugs Comp Cams XE268H Camshaft (224/230@.050, .477/.480) Re-use Performer EPS Re-use Edelbrock Crab Re-use Mallory HEI ARP Bolts 1 5/8" Heddmen Headers Any body have any comments on the setup...anything I missed or should look at as an alternate? This is my first total rebuild so I would like to hear any input you guys might have. |

that would be a good set up. i had a 65 chevelle with a 327 that ran very hard. it had the k.b 10.5 to 1 pistons, ported, polished and flowed fuelies, edelbrock scorpion intake, 750 holley and a custom ground schnider solid cam. it was a automatic with a 3,000 stall. the best the car ran was 12.18@114mph but that was with 4.56 gears and 26x8 slicks. it was my only car too. the 327 has always been my favorite small block and i`m considering building a 12.5 to 1 327 for my 70 chevy p/u. it`s alot heavier than a chevelle but should run low 12`s. good luck with the motor, sounds like a good one.

your rods should be ok. just use arp bolts. you have a small journal 327 so if you change rods, you need small journal rods.

thanks. it would have been faster with a higher stall. it would only footbrake to 2,000rpm. the motor did`nt start pulling hard till about 3,500rpm. if it could launch at 4,000rpm, i think it would have run high 11`s.

i'm considering the same thing, i have a 327 in my impala. how many horses do you figure you will get with this setup? i was looking to get around 375hp. maybe i will use the same setup, although my car is a bit heavier than yours i think i would be happy with high 13's i'm not planning on racing just a lot of cruising with the occasional heavy foot.

You may want too consitter http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com...-48104404852.42 $980.00 with a 7 year/70,000 mile warranty is hard to beat. I think that's what I'll be getting for my 78 El Camino.

Just something I would do: Run the Performer RPM cam with the Performer RPM heads.

pistons
loose the pistons
go with TRW forged the kieth black are junk as for the rod go with gm X rods for further mods if you like think about getting a set of splayed man caps as well worth there wiegt in gold and lets not forget the Z GATE rings no gap no blow by and no ring filling as for the cam go with the rpm grind solid cam and a set of roller rockers and a rpm spring kit to match port to gakets and intake dont exceed 6000 rpm to keep it safe good luck Bookster2771@aol.com |
