Yes, 366 Tall Deck and 427 Tall Deck.

Avoid the 366, its small bore and lack of room to overbore to even a 396 piston makes it a loser. Use it for the steel crank, rods, and 4-bolt main caps for a bigger BBC only. The 427 Tall Deck is a good place to start for a big stroker engine build. 4-bolt main caps and steel crank in these also.

It is kinda sickning when a guy wants to build a 327 or other engine and many of the following post try and persuade the the person to build a 350.

If you are going to buy one of the dinosaur boat anchor 350 Vortecs whey would't you buy a 5.3 or 6.0 instead when they are so cheap and plentiful and you can make 400-500 hp with very little modification.

number one reason is cost. a 450Vortec enigne in your car will end up costing you less than 3 grand, to put a 550 6.0L in an older car requires fab work and with headers, mounts, adapters etc you can be in for about 6 grand.

327 build.

Nothing wrong with a 327. If it is a small journal, better aftermarket rods can be had at a reasonable cost on Ebay. Stock rods need better 11/32 bolts (Think ARP) but they are very good quality forgings. All pre-68 327's were small journal cranks and all SJ 327 cranks were forged steel, not cast. They are actually the heaviest crank Chevy made for a gen 1 SBC,. very stout. Flat top hyperutectic pistons are availible for the 327. Comp cams solid flat tappet 268 or 270 cam, good set of 64 cc heads and you will have a street screamer. Hey, dare to be different! Thats what hotrodding is all about.
