IDK. Hook up the timing light to see where you are at. Does this engine have a performance camshaft? You may have too much initial and mechanical advance that 's why you need to check the initial timing with the light. You may have to used ported vacuum ( the left side port). Too much to speculation without knowing the timing curve.
