327 Starter mount on block broken off.
What's going on all. Lots of good knowledge on this site. I know from reading some of the posts I need to get the adapter plate to mount a new starter or get a starter with 3 mounting holes.
Has anyone had sucess with the 3 hole starter and which flywheel do you use with the 3 hole starter? Please provide part # for 3 hole starter. What is an easy way to be sure what tooth flywheel you have when assembeled / mounted? Adapter plate users, do you have any info to share on your install and sucess? Thanks! If the two bolt holes that are across from each other are still OK, another option is to use a 'mini starter' that uses the bolt holes for the small diameter flex/flywheel for BOTH sizes of 'wheels.
An example is one like: http://www.summitracing.com/search/...orque-Starters/ If the starter that was on the engine had the staggered bolt holes- which it would have had, or you wouldn't have a problem w/the outer staggered bolt hole being broken- you have the 168T flexplate. The starter w/holes across from each other are for the 153T. You could use a small diameter (153T) flexplate and a stock type starter, as well. |

ALL 3 bolt mounted/bell housing mounted starters use a 168 tooth flywheel/flexplate. The ring adapter plate must use this setup. It's original purpose was so later model automatic transmissions could be used with the 55-57 265's as they did'nt have provision for block mounted starters, nor could they be drilled for one. The adapter ring also works to save a block with a brocken starter pad mount, big or small block. Any 55-62 V-8 starter (except 62 327, Chevy II, some trucks, and maybe the 409) will work. The ring will work with standard and automatic transmissions, not that they were actually designed for that.

Thanks for the info cobalt327 and junior stocker. Hey cobalt or anyone else, does summit have a mini starter that mounts using the two holes closes to the block, on a small block chevy 327. The broken block mount is the outside one, the two inside holes are good. Hey thanks for the quick replies last time. I'll do the same when possible.

My mistake- the mini starter won't work w/what you have going on. Don't know of a starter that uses the inner holes, either.
