327 starting issues

ive just got done installing my 327 and tranny into my 85 chevy c10. the engine is a 1967 327. i had the old style distributor in it and it was getting fire but i rigged the coil and messed it up... so i put a hei dist. in it, and now it wont get fire. i have new plugs new cap new wires and the coil is fairly new. the rotor is the only thing not new. could the rotor cause it to not fire or would it be something else. oh and i forgot... when i pulled the original 305 out i saw a few wires that was caught and didnt catch it in time and they broke. one of them was the dist. wire and im wondering if i didnt get the right one hooked up right but the wires are the same color. would should i do to get the fire??? thanks for the help!!!

Can you post some pictures, that helps. By reading your post, I assume you have an external coil? How many wires do you have coming out of the distributor and what colors?
