I want to make a low end tourqe, good economy engine. Has anyone ever herd of puting a 400 crank into a 305, I did the math and it would make a 329. Has it been done, I relize that i may half to do some grinding, and I'll need to get a crank with small journals. But do they make kits for it? What kind of rods would I half to buy, I relize its not a popular choice since most people would rather make a 383 stroker. Im just wondering about that engine combo. And I am very intested in making one if it can be done.

I don't know where you would find pistons for this. For the cost of custom pistons you could easily build something else.

as far as stroking a 305, wouldnt you keep the same piston size(excluding boring it out)?

Slim, even with the standard bore you would need custom pistons with the pin relocated. Otherwise the additional stroke would cause the tops of the pistons to stick out past the block deck. Shorter rods COULD be used, but then there would be the additional expense of custom rods. Also the short rods are detrimental to performance in this case. Long rods put less side loading on the cylinders and allow the piston to dwell longer at TDC which helps cylinder scavaging (somewhat) at higher RPM, especially with long overlap specs on the cam.

The motor would be a 335 cid.Try www.enginekits.com they sell a complete stroker kit for the 305 the kit cost $599.00.
