I'm about to buy a steel 34 ford high boy street rod thats been chopped channeled and raked. My questions is how do you tell a 33 from a 34 body? An where did they place the VIN on these things? After I get this thing I'll post pictures and what i payed for the thing. I think I finally get to be one of those guys who fall into a really sweet deal.

The VIN on the frame is on the drivers side just in front of where the body contacts the frame. It should begin with a 18. As far as I am aware the only differance was the grill...could be wrong on that.

I do NOT claim to be a 33 - 34 Ford person but I believe the numbers start with 40. The 18 is for V8 32's.....

And I know that the 33 and 34 had the inside door handles in different places.

IF I remember right.....the door handle is at the front edge of the door on a 33............and mid way on a 34.

Also the slots in a the cowl where the hood rods go are different.

The leading edge of the lower part of the grille is different between the two and a minor difference in the front fenders where they meet the lower grille shell.

But I have a 34 Ford TITLE ( that came with a 34 Ford ...not a title service) that starts with 40. I KNOW that 33 - 34 part numbers start with 40......



I also have a Model A title ...for a 32........
The title says 1932 but the numbers and prefix says Model A....

I bought a Chevelle once that was a SS396 and the title was a 4 door....... I caught it and went back where I got the SS and the 4 door was sitting on the lot.........the dealer messed up the titles....

THINGS HAPPEN.........


I do know for a fact that V8 32's should have a 18-
Maybe Ford carried it over......I do not know........

Actually, the '34 had both locations. the later '34s had the handle in the middle. More confusion! Arghhhhhhhh!

I have found when dealing with these old Fords...........you can never tell. That's why I put.. " I do not claim to be a 33 - 34 Ford person" in the first post as a disclaimer.

Ford has early, late and in between on most everything they built during the depression. I do not doubt for 1 minute that Vince's title says 18 * -------- , just like mine is 40 * -------- for the 1934 Ford field car I bought. I had to buy 5 cars to get the one 1932 I wanted.

1 1932 coupe
1 1934 Victoria......cut down into a truck and left to rot many years ago....
1 1935 Ford 1/2 ton pickup
2 1940 Fords....1 coupe (ex round tracker) and 1 4 door.
I got a title with ALL 5.......

70 years is a long time........lots of things happen and change...

I don't think there is an expert on those models that is still alive. I do know that the 32 was a model 18 and 33-34's were model 40. I also believe that a 33 had one hood handle and a 34 had two. As far as serial numbers, my 40 coupe S/N starts with 18. I think that indicated a V-8. The early 4cyl. and the later 6cyl. started with a different number.

You may be on to something with the 18 and V8. My 34 title does say V8 Coupe and it starts with 18.
