With a Chevy, most folks that I've talked to build a steel framework for what they can. What absolutely needs wood, they try to piece together the existing pieces and make new one out of oak or ash (real pains to work with without the right tools). I understand that the thriving wood replacement industry that exists for the early Fords is not available as easily for the Chevy's. I do believe that someone makes wood for them but not sure who. Various Chevrolet Wood Kits have been available for years from Obsolete Chevrolet Parts in Nashville, Georgia.
There is no practical, viable way to "restore" the bad wood in an old car. Either replace it with new wood or go with the steel tubing framework to replace the wood. |
