Gentlemen, not new to hot rods but new to this forum. Retired a couple yrs ago and finally getting a chance to FINISH !! a hot rod. Those of you with familys know what I,m talking about. I,m building a '32 Victoria, 327 chevy and 700R4, 3.89 9" posi, basically for cruising down the road. But I wanted some grunt to play if thats what suited me at the moment. I would like to get your concensus on the H.P. level of my engine build. I,ll try to make it as short as posible Its a virgin '64 327 (got it free!), small journal steel crank which was mag,d 10-10 shotpeened and polished. Rods were resized shotpeened, polished beams. ARP main studs and rod bolts. The block was .030 bored and fitted with Speed Pro hypereutectic pistons. The heads are Edelbrock alum. #60899 64cc which with my combo yield 9.52 to 1. Comp cams mag roller tip rockers and an Edelbrock airgap intake with a Quick Fuel 650 holley vac. carb. Comp Cam CS XE262H-10 cam 462/469 lift, 262/270 dur. I wanted a little rump-rump but also needed some vacuum for the power brake so I didnt go nuts on the cam. The engine was balanced and put together correctly with TLC but I wont use the overdone term " blueprinted". Sorry to be so long winded, thats the heart of the build up...what do you guys think? thanks in advance.....Dave

I ran your combo on Desktop Dyno using the Edl.RPM flow #'s and XE262 specs. (I ran the cam specs at seat to seat timing. Comp lists the specs @ .006, but Desktop Dyno only uses @.050 or seat to seat)

Torque @ 2000 rpm is 325 ft.lbs., climbs to 360 ft.lbs. @3500 rpm and stays above 300 ft. lbs. until 5500 rpm when it drops to 295 ft. lbs.

HP peak is 310 HP @ 5000 rpm. The curve is pretty flat between 4500 rpm and 6000 rpm (around 300 HP).

Looks good for your intended purpose.

(edit--these figures are for stock manifolds with mufflers. With small tube headers and mufflers peak #'s are: 349 HP @ 5500 rpm & 385 ft. lbs. @ 4000 rpm)

Just for grins I ran your combo with the XE268H cam instead of the 262.

Peaks are 323 HP @ 5500 rpm and 352 ft. lbs. @ 3500 rpm.

Power stays over 300 HP between 4500-6500 rpm and torque is flat between 3000-4500 rpm @ around 350 ft. lbs.

(edit- the corrected figures with headers/mufflers are 364 HP @ 5500 rpm & 381 ft. lbs. @ 4500 rpm)

Performance trends show up at 365hp at 5700, and 400 ft.lbs at 4200. This was using and 1 5/8" open header.

We about a year ago built a 327 for a customer with a set of bowl blended 461's, 10-1, Comps XE274H-10, and a light worked Torker intake (the old style one) and a Quick Fuel 750. I dont remember the torque, but it did make 385hp at 5900.

I ran my numbers on Desktop Dyno using small tube headers and mufflers. I plugged in the flow chart #'s for the RPM heads and used the cam card #'s from Comp Cams.

I have very similar combo as follows. It was dynoed (rear wheel), 4-speed Muncie, 3.36 rear end, 28in. tires and came in at 290 hp @ 5800 rpm and 320 ft lb torque @ 3900 and was very flat across-ed a wide range

KB156 pistons, 7cc valve reliefs
Performer RPM intake, Carter AFB 600 cfm carb.
CompCams XE262-10, 218/224, 110 lobe sep., .462/.469 lift
CompCams roller rockers 1.52:1
Block decked to 0.010, Head gasket 0.028
9.6:1 SCR, 8.1:1 DCR
