In my case the top corners of the rad hit the inside of the grill shell insert. All I need is another 1/16". I think I have solved the problem. I was able to trim a bit off the rad frame on both sides.
your information is correct but I immediately thought, elongate the holes for mounting the grille shell to radiator to gain the needed clearance.
