I could use some information on installing a steering column in my 34 ford. I have an ididit column with a 5.5 inch drop. My question is what angle should the steering column be set at. There i so little room it looks as if the column has to go to the left of the brake pedal to clear the engine and get all the steering linkages to the rack. Any advice would be appreciated.

my column is set at 35 degrees, but that is for me. you may need to change it to suit your height & weight + your seat position. the column in my 34 is between the gas pedal & brake pedal, thats right,i must brake with my left foot. you need to locate your column to clear your pedal, motor, exhaust headers, etc, as best you can.
good luck with your rod. |

Some Installation Tips (Click on "3" Installation)
I had some of the same questions when trying to install the steering column in my '32. Every installation is a little different and I ended up taking the advice from the link above. Once I did everything they suggested to locate the column for all of the interior concerns, I drilled a small hole in the firewall at the centerline of the column. I then worked from the rack to the hole I drilled to make sure I could clear everything in the front end (frame, headers, etc.). I ended up tweaking my location slightly to allow me to clear the headers. In other words, my optimum position for the interior had to be slightly adjusted to accomodate the front end. I got some small diameter wooden dowels to help with the mock-up. Good luck. [ June 01, 2003: Message edited by: 32vicky ]
|
