Wheels and tires have arrived

American Racing Torq Thrust II chrome centers with Nitto Neo Gen tires. Got both the wheels and the tires from Newstalgia Wheels.

A little help with the project

Enlisted a little help with the final coats of clear on the cab. This young man is one of the very talented color sanders and buffer at a local custom paint shop. He made me a super deal on color sanding and buffing everything. This would have taken me another month at least.

Cool project

Here is a shot of another one of the cool projects going on in the shop that I have had the pleasure of using. It is going to be painted this weekend. The top has been chopped 3-7/8". The young man is another one of the very talented body men that work at the local custom paint shop. They are earning a little extra working for the guys in the club helping with our projects.

Vince,
Everything is looking good!

My question is how you can stand to let someone else touch that car after you painted it?
I'd be as nervous as a whore in church and probably start drinking.
I just can't let anyone touch one of mine, I guess if its going to get screwed up I want to do it myself.

Barry, if I did not know anything about these guys and seen their work there is no way I would. And to tell you the truth, I am kinda burnt out on the paint thing, and ready to put this thing together.

One of our club members had his 34 Plymouth coupe at the shop these guys work at during the day. It was there for almost a year for body work and paint. It was painted Kandy Apple red and it is a jaw dropper. The paint job rivals anything I have seen at any show, including Louisville. One of the fellows is the young man that repaired my sons Vette after someone knocked a hole in the door. Their work is first class.

Looking at the color sanding as it sits is always scary to me. I always wonder whether or not it will come back. It always does but this is the point I always find it the scariest.

Final assembly has started

The paint, color sanding and buffing is finished. It is now time to start the final assembly. I feel as though I have finally conquered a major hurdle. The paint looks really well, actually a lot better than I expected. The money I paid these young men to color sand and buff everything was very well spent IMO and saved me a whole bunch of time. The body is back on the chassis for the last time and the garage floor is full of highly buffed fenders, running boards, deck lid, gas tank cover and hood parts. The wife's Tahoe is spending a few nights outside until I can clear a space for it (probably several weeks or more).

The fellow doing the buffing could not believe how hard the PPG 2002 was and kept commenting on it. Some of the parts had been cleared quite a while and required some really aggressive buffing compound. I was being far too cautious with the buffing and was not getting very good results. The body was re-cleared and it was color sanded and buffed within the 16 hour window and was far easier to buff.

Tomorrow I will post some pics of the body and all the pieces. This is now the fun stage for me . First on the agenda is insulating the body. I have some Cool Car ceramic insulation I am going to try. The guy who owns Cool Car as I understand it was one of the founders of Lizard Skin and had a falling out and formed his own company. I saw both of these products at Louisville and they appeared identical. At the time I did not know that they were actually the same product. Cool Car is a bit less expensive than Lizard Skin.

My Tea's seat still has not arrived, but has been promised within two weeks.
