340 6-pak idle issues

The 36 is finally on the road , can't count the hours getting this 6-pak user friendly but still have some issues, engine is stock 340 with factory 6-pak cam, stock carbs/linkage etc, factory choke and idle solenoid , she starts, warms and runs around in traffic great , however being a gearhead I do sometimes like to open her up on occasion, like the last couple of blocks before putting her in the stable , after having been at WOT for a bit the idle will jump to 1500-2000 rpm and stay there , put it in gear to slow and shut off , let it sit a bit and restart and idle is normal again. ??? , have checked for outboards hanging up , did notice once that the fuel levels were low after a quick blast so set about 1/3 siteglass on outboards and bottom of siteglass on center carb to no avail ( thought carbs were running low causing a lean condition) can't find any vacuum leaks, any ideas ???

maybe double check the advance mechanisms, mechanical and vacuum. could be there and not the carb at all. I could be way off base, just a thought.
Could the metering rods hang up in the center carb?

Your mixture might be a tad lean on the center carb, have you tried turning the screws out a half turn to see if the condition reduces?

I got it !!!, Hot idle compensator in center carb , bimetal operated valve , basically creates vacuum leak to speed up and theoretically help cool engine , being that we are cooled with electric fans , compensator will mess with my idle no more !!

Make sure your secondary carbs are fully closed. It could cause idling go up if not closed.
