35 Chevy Sedan Rear Axle
I am thinkin about starting my 35 chevy now and curious what a great rear axle would be for the car and any tips for it.:confused:
Could you be a little more vague,
Need more info to give a sensible answer...
What is the expected weight?
What is the end use?
What size tire?

Its gonna be just a street rod. Its gonna have just a 350 with possibly a turbo 350 trans. i have an s10 axle for it but i just wanna hear from someone who might have some better insight for it. as for wheels not sure yet probably 16 or 17 inch rims
I like for the rear wheel bolt pattern to be the same as the front wheels. :D
Most rodders prefer a 9 inch Ford rear end. Strong, easy to find parts and easy to work on.

How to recognize 9" housing centers
57 - no dimples, flat center band up the center of the rear cover, bottom
58-59 - two dimples on back of housing, flat center band, some had drain holes
60-67 - two dimples, flat center band, oil level hole in back cover
63-77 Lincoln, LTD, Thunderbirds had 9.375 inch centers, housings were cut
away at the gasket surface for ring gear clearance, one curved rib at the front
top portion of differential. Strong, but no gears.
Types of 9" Axles
28 spline axles cannot be shortened and resplined (they're tapered)
Some can: 69-73 Mustang and Cougars have a straight 28 spline axle.
72 and earlier 31 spline axles have the ability to be shortened
73 and later 9" (big cars) have a 5-on-5 bolt circle and the axles cannot be

I always use a 9 inch Ford under my projects. I dislike the spicer type/bolt on rear cover rear ends ...
Not sure how wide the leafs are spaced on the 35 but the S10 might bolt in but prolly not very strong. Might look at a Camero/Firebird 8.5 or 12 bolt also.
Oh i know s10 axles are strong enough i had an s10 and had 1 1/2 ton of feed in the bed n never broke it
