35 ford tudor headliner

Time to do my interior and realized I made another screw up. When I put my "temporary" interior in, I thought the top wires had been cut off so I unscrewed them and tossed them. Now I find out thats how they are supposed to be. I cant find any repros or used ones, so I guess I'm gonna have to make some. I'm still not clear how they relate to the wooden bows. Anyone got any information on these?

Does the car have metal bows or wooden bows that hold the headliner up?

Both Dan, The wires are on the sides above the windows and only 8 inches or so long - thats why I thought they were cut off. I think 35 was the only year for this. I cant picture how this all works. The headliner staples to the wood bows in the middle I think. The car is a streetrod so I dont have to do anything original.

The original head liners had a sleeve built into each head liner panel. The short wires on the sides were attached to the sides of the top and the sleeve was slid over the wires on installation and the center section of the sleeve was attached to the wooden bows that were primarily installed to support the roof fabric. Upon installation, you start with the front wooden bow and work your way back, saving the front and rear surround attaching to last. You complete the installation by tucking the sides up under the retaining strips that I hope you saved (they are metal strips with griping teeth that are folded almost 180* under the strips. You can make the wire bows from some heavy wire (3/16" dia) and make your eyes or tack on a small washer.

Thank you very much - I can kind of picture it now. I remember those retaining strips - I'll see if I can find them. Dont think I tossed them (I hope). Did they staple the sleeves to the wood? Thanks

They originally would have tacked the sleeves to the wood, but staples are just fine also.
