I am not changing the shortblock just doing a cam swap. and yeah I could have went and got a 300$ used vortec and slapped a carb on if I wanted a used engine.

Looking for help on the valve springs, Im not sure how close is "close enough" as far as specs go.

The recommended valve springs for the xr270hr ( I am getting the howards version) are

132 @ 1.750 293 @ 1.250

the springs on my vortecs are

135 lbs. @ 1.750, 325 lbs @ 1.200

Pretty close at 1.750, pretty large difference on the second spec..

Don't go for the pitfall of close enough. To much pressure is going to wear the lifter/cam prematurely. The Howards is a quality cam and you should go back to Competition Products to get the matching springs.Just do it right.

Okay well actually comp suggests 2 different springs for this size cam. My springs are alot closer to the 2nd option.

option 1. 986-16 132 / 293
option 2. 987-16 121 / 343

current springs 135 / 325 -
almost the seat of the first and open of the 2nd...?

I think I will be okay... accounting for loss of pressure I would be even closer to the recommended spring after a year lol.

I've been looking into isky roller cams in the same profile range as the XR270HR.

Im wondering if a cam has an operating range of 2000-6000 on a 112lsa, how much will the rpm range change going to a 110 or 108?

The lift/duration specs are VERY similar to the 270 but the 270 is on a 110 and starts 500rpm sooner.

I dont want a comp product and have heard very good things about isky from alot of my dads old school friends.

Somewheres along the line I read that you should not use full roller rockers on an engine with less than 350# of spring pressure. Mine has 325# and am ready to buy the skip white steel rollers ive been looking at, should I be looking into roller tip rockers? seems like the full roller would be better in any case...?

I screwed up and jumped the gun on this deal. Now im hoping I will beable to install the new pistons myself? I assume I need to take the old piston/rod combo and have a shop switch the pistons?

Also I believe the H345CP speed pro hyper piston is a standard compression height piston.
False they are 1.548". I bought them assuming they were, Summit misadvertised them as 1.560".

You have to shorten the cam dowel/drive pin to use the LT cam. No big deal (in some cases the pin can be driven deeper into the front journal), but there are thousands of hydro roller cams made for that engine that'll fit w/o any extra work. You cannot find anything but an LT cam?
