350 Build Cast #3970010

Trying to find out exactly what model chevy my block was originally in.
its a common casting #3970010 with:
010
020
184 or 164 near the oil filter.

I found H11 / 509 stamped on the 4 bolt back side but cant seem to find anything else other than a 512 / 532 on the front side.
does anyone know?

Cast from 68-78. You will need the stamped numbers on the pass side forward deck surface for original application.

Does J224 mean October 22, 1974 ? How can I find or can I find the type of chevy it was in?

The number Bob referenced is the suffix number, stamped on the block deck, passenger side, all the way to the front, in front of the head if there's one bolted to the block. This will normally include two or three Alpha characters which will tell you the origins of the motor.....scroll down here to "Suffix portion of Chevy engine code".
