350 carb?

I've got an `81 chevy truck with a 350...I think I'm having carb troubles...It randomly dies and then I have to wait 5 minutes and it usually starts back up if it doesn't I have to wait another 5 minutes and try again....When it's about to die it kind of bogs when I try to accelerate almost like it's missing...then when I pull over it dies...Is this carb related? any ideas? what should I check? It doesn't do this all the time and runs good most of the time, but it's recently happening more frequently... Thanks in advance...

re: 350 carb?

next time this happens, check 2 things, spark first, get a spark tester, pull a plug wire when it dies and turn it over to see if it has spark, if it doesn`t, then I would focus on the module or the coil going south, likely the module, if spark checks out okay, check the fuel system, make sure it`s getting fuel. by the way you discribe it though, I`m betting it`s spark related.

re: 350 carb?

Yeah that sounds like a coil problem to me.

I got a 91 Civic for $100 and was foolin with it and every time it died and bogged down it made me think the fuel pump was going bad, but I worked on it a little more and found that the coil casing was cracked, so I put a $10 junkyard coil on it and it ran as good as a Honda can.

re: 350 carb?

Along with the other suggestions, i'd ck the crappy little filter in the carb inlet. They are small and plug fast.

I"m driving an '86 chevy 1/2 ton that only has 23,000 miles on it. Problem is it sat for 11 years before I got it. The tanks have some real fine powdery stuff in them from when the gas dried out. It will be fine for about 300 miles, then start bogging and sometimes stalling, but usually does start up and run. For me, its fuel filter time. I finally put a big inline filter before the pump and its good for 1000 miles now! LOL Probably should pull and flush the tanks, but filters are cheap and its going longer inbetween plug-ups.

re: 350 carb?

Thanks for the suggestions...Can I have the module and the coil checked at a parts store when it's not stalled or will they possibly give me false readings because its working at that point in time?
