350 chevy backfire

When I first fire my engine it backfires for 30 seconds or so until it smooths out. timing or carb??

350 chevy backfire

It only does it from a cold start and the timing is 4 deg adv I think.

4 degrees sounds pretty low. Try bumping it up to about 12-14*

Doc here,

Yeah..a 350 likes to be in the 10 to 14 degree timing range..I'd reset it and check for detonation..

AND just about any dead cold engine with some miles on it, will spit back under load until warm..my vettes do it all the time..I like to give it a 3 to 5 minute warm up before putting them to work..

350 chevy backfiring

thanks for the tips guys, I will change the timing and see if that helps, the engine is fresh by the way, only 10 miles on it since rebuild.
