350 chevy enging some at idle and throttle

i have a chevy 350 engine that smoke a little at idle and when the engine in rived up. as far as i can tell it donot smoke going down the highway. this engine has ben setting up for several years but was rebuilt just before setting up. i have replaced the carb. and plugs/wires and it starts and run perfect but smoke a little (blue). sometimes it don't some at all and i pulled the plugs and they all are black (soot) with oil around the threads. should i run it a little or just go ahead and repair it. i think it may be valve seals or guides. any suggestions. it is strong and runs goods

This might sound dumb but did you change the oil? If not change it. I dont think you can hurt it by running it while it is burning oil but I am no pro. How does it feel sluggish, missing badly? Before you change the oil try running some mystery oil down the carb, I know this is snake oil remedy but sometimes it works.

Might try running a Qt. of rislone or lucas oil additive for about 100 miles and then change the oil. It will loosen up it up and soften the seals. Costs less to try than tearing it down right away.
