350 chevy small block ?s
I have a 350 chevy small block laying around in the grague and i wuz wondering if anyone can help me figure out a good combination to get around or to 350 hp out of it with around 2000$ if possible thanks! 06-14-2004 09:04 PM

350 hp is easy. Have a good stock rebuild done with these upgrades. Flat top Hyper-eutectic pistons, Moly rings, Double roller t-set, a good mid range power hydraulic cam, M55a oil pump, steel sleeve oil pump drive (for reliability).

Then you get to the heads. Have a good three angle valve job done, you will usually need guides, so go with the bronze, use premium seals and Z/28 or better valve springs, mill the heads .010.

Add a good Performer type intake, a set of headers and a 650-750 vac secondary carb and you will have a reliable powerful engine.

Shop wisely and don't get hung up on brand names, do as much labor as you (and some Knowledgeable buddies) can and you can do all this within a budget.

I dont see 350 N/A horsepower with flat tops, unless your possibly using 58cc heads to get the compression up closer to 10:1...maybe 64cc heads... but either way. your also going to need more than a Performer intake.The Performer is good to 5500 RPMs, your gonna need more RPM than that Id consider the Performer RPM, or Weiand Stealth.
Depending on what heads you have, itll take more than just a 3 angle valve job, by the time your done spending money on 2.02/1.60 valves & porting, might be better off with aftermarket heads.

Put most of your money in your heads right off the bat! The cam and other $100 stuff can come later.

Ok i dont got no heads with this engine but i wuz thinking about buying a new set any suggestions?

the Vortec heads are nice, theyll raise your compression to around 9.5:1 with flat tops, they flow great without major work.... but, they do need better springs, need machine work for higher lifts, also require a vortec style intake, rocker arms & valve the time your done with all that, might be better off buying a set of Sportsman IIs. a real good head for the money

Depends on how wild of a cam you are going with. If just mild you could go with Vortech's but you have to get the matching intake. I would probably go for the AFR's if it were mine.

well this is going to a daily driver so i dont want too wild of a cam and ide rather really go with the sportsman 2 heads incase i want to upgrade sometime later

if using the Sportsmans, get the 64cc & use a forged flat top piston that will give you about 9.5:1 with that head.
If your looking for 350 HP. your gonna have to have a pretty healthy cam, something that will run in the 6200-6500 range, unless you go with a hyd. roller , but that may be out of you budget.
Dont forget, an engine like this is also going to need a loose convertor & is really going to want a gear a little steeper than what you might have. John

What cam would u suggest and what about intake and carb

and also i have a th350 transmission with a B&M shifkit do u think this will withstand the added horsepower plus i want to add a stall conveter

This is a motor built like BOBCRMAN is saying. The only difference being the use of SR heads instead of reworked stockers.

348Hp @ 5300RPM.........And a Performer intake...........Dan

yea but this motor on that website has been bored over and i really dont want to do all that i wanna keep the stock 350 bore

boring an engine isnt a big power maker....unless the cylinders are worn & the engine is down on power anyway..030 over on a 350 is 5 cubic on a healthy street 350 that makes 1 hp per CI...thats a whole 5 HP. John

i thought an increase in bore gave more power than that i guess i learned sumthin new... so really if the engine seemed to run healthy and the cylinder walls look good getting the engine bored over is worthless?
