a little info about the vehicle would be nice! During this five seconds does it run good or like crap? What vehicle is it? If it runs good for the five seconds i would say that is sounds like the anti theft system if it is new enough for that

Don't just start throwing new parts at it hoping you will fix it. Try to do some trouble shooting.
If you got a lot a sensors you need to satisfy them.
Of course , gas, spark, compression.
You got that just losing one of them.

Did u have this truck running before? Is this a new to u truck. Did it have a chip in the key. Cause thats what it sounds like. You using a key with no chip and won't stay running with out.

I have a '88 GMC with a 350. My problem was the pickup coil in the distributor, I don't know if yours has one though. It plugs into the module in the distributor. You can test it by unplugging the leads and using a meter set to ohms you test between each connector and it should read 500-1500 ohms. Then test between each connector and the distributor body, it should read infinite. If it fails it is bad. Be sure to test when it is not able to run. Also when in no run condition check for spark, I used a timing light to find the lack of spark. It also may be the module in the distributor, if you replace it use the recommended grease or the new one will fail quickly. I hope this helps you. Oh, it also may be a coil heating up and failing and try Chevy Talk forum also.

Does it start right back up or do you have to wait a while.
If you have to wait, check for spark and injector pulse when it is not starting. Sounds like a security system issue. Almost everything in that year had passkey.
More info on the vehicle will make it easier to help.
what body style, engine etc.

Are you using the original key, or a Wal-Mart copy cat?
