350 ci to 454 ci coversion

I lost the motor in my 88 GMC truck, and I found a 454 engine that I could put in it for a decent price. I would like to know if the computer for this vehicle would have to be changed too, and any other conversions would have to be done to make it work. This vehicle has EFI. The 454 is a EFI too out of a 89 truck

It's my belief that the computer has to be changed to do that swap.

Remember those big block lacked some of the get up and go. so if it's for horsepower your going to have to put some money into it. But if it's for every day driving I just replace what you have that way the swap will be smother.

Good Luck and hope this helps

John

yes... the computer will have to be changed and im pretty sure you'd have to change the wiring harness too. plus the motor mounts are going to have to be changed. and i dunno bout this one, but the front suspension may have to be upgraded due to the added weight of the big block....

No dont think the ECM has to be changed just the prom and the calibration chip (some can some cant on the calibration chip) But considering the other issues from exhaust to mounts and brackets & cooling I would just find another 350, even a short block and use your heads... Saw your post about your not so friendly friend...

How about a 305ci, I'm just trying to get something fast, and I haven't came across a 350 yet.

main issue with a 305 would be to change to the 305 injectors in place of the 350 units and NO they are not the same... Otherwise its a bolt in situation... (somewhat weaker though)

apparently the computer wouldnt need to be changed on the 454 either, just the PROM and the calibration chip, which makes sense, i'd just change everything out as a whole. anyway, the 305 and the 350 both have diferent timing and fuel curves. so you would have to change out the PROM and calibration chip on the 305 the same as the 454.
