350 Factory heads Max lift

Hey guys whats the max lift I can get from a factory st of 350 heads 333882 Casting. 1.94 Intake 1.50 Exhaust 76cc

You're probably going to be safe at .450 or so maybe even more but there are too many variables to just give you a number and be 100% sure you will be ok. These heads may have been apart before and been reassembled with non stock seals. Even at .450 the stock springs should be upgraded to match the cam. If it's not stock the fitment needs checked.

I have seen .480 in stock 882 heads. But, the springs go away fast... Especially the exhaust..

Just did a set of old Pro Topline SR's today. Guy couldn't figure why his engine ate two hydraulic flat tappet camshafts and noisey roller rockers... and burned oil.

Here is what he had..Three piece springs, Titainium retainers------185 lbs on the seat and just the "O" ring seal set on the valve stem as the valves were one groove..No guide plates and round guide holes in the heads..

It's amazing what you can get away with (for a little while) when you you don't know that you can't do that.

is that .465 - .470 a general number for most GM heads?

i was thinking about throwing a bigger cam at my engine with stock smogger heads.. but I'm concerned about how much lift the heads can tolerate.. I can swap springs no big deal.. not sure about the retainer to guide clearance tho.

(currently running .442" lift with 1.5:1 rockers)

with plans to follow up the cam swap with better heads.. (thinking some vortec style iron heads..)
