350 heads
 
Hey,

I'm rebuilding my first 350 engine and I need some heads.

I need them to be cheap as possible. $150 or less!

I have a standard cam and crank, .060 over sized heads and a Torquer II intake.

Any help will be great!

I live in Fargo, ND. I'm putting it into a 1952 Chevrolet pickup. I'm looking for cheap but not junk. and the intake was just free. the only things i salvaged from the old engine was the block. everything else was junk.

I'm looking to make it as high performance as i can for as cheap as possible. like I said I'm not very rich at the moment.

w/e heads you can find that cheap is what you will get. By the time they are freshened up,just bolt them on.

i looked for some 882 heads but i couldn't find anything in my area worth getting. I just need to know the casting number for the heads to look for.

This guy on ebay has several types of heads to look at. Havent gotten any from him yet but do plan to buy one of his aluminum head sets.

These are a 400 a set ready to bolt on with 2.02 valves and fully machined and checked over. Edit: these are 76 cc you will probably want 64 cc heads. They sell those as well. In several different casting numbers.

Plan on using an after market cam and lifter kit as well. You should be good for a few ponies. If you look at edelbrocks site they have a kit for the chevy 350 that includes cam and everything. They can help you select cam and head type by comparing parts to see what is like the kits or in between the two kits they sell. One is 410 hp and the other is 330 i think but either way best to stay low on the range there. I mention this because there kits a re very repeat able and can usally work with any stock short block. Since they make it for mass market sale. Not the best but will bolt to any dam thng and work good enough.

I don't mean this to sound harsh, but the learning curve that you're facing is more than you can handle right now. Stop what you're doing and raise some cash, however you can and buy a crate motor. It will be absolutely the cheapest way to get the truck running. Forget about performance right now. Here's what you should be looking at....

I'm well aware of the learning curve. I'm working with several race care drivers that make their own engines as well as teachers. I don't want huge performance. just a little extra. They also told me it would be cheaper to go with a crate, but I like doing things on my own. Plus you don't learn unless you try! (for me). I plan on making this one of many engines to build.

then take the new engine apart that tech said to buy,measure every part and record it.Put it back together.That would be a great way to learn.
If you doubt your ability,then run the engine for a year,pull it out and take it apart,measure everything and put it back together with a better cam and different intake.

Are 150$ heads going to get you rolling? When I was looking there was all sorts of used engines available for 300-500. Still in the car so you can check it out all you want before you buy it. plenty of vortec 350's. All around 150k but you will have that short block you saved to build on and learn on while you run the dog**** out of the used one. Hopefully by time you blow it up you will have the other motor ready. Then you have another 350 on the stand for rebuilding.
