and about the crank, the mains on the crank only have a few minor scratches so hopefully those could be polished maybe. we'll see. it looks like the bearings took most of the abuse over the crank.

one last question. must the same rod and bearing go back on the same crank journal? and must the same piston go back in the same bore after a rering and cylinder hone? Thanks again.

I would replace the parts in the same position they were in before hand. Only if the crank was turned and the bearings, pistons and rings were all new, except for keeping the rods in the correct orientation (big end bearing tangs and chamfers) and maintaining the correct rod side clearance, the rods w/new pistons and bearings can go back in the engine in any order. But used parts, I'd keep same to same.

Okay thanks for the info, i guess mine i can put where ever after hearing back from my builder. He said "I dont know who the hell rebuilt this but the cylinders are shaped like hour glasses and they "reground" the crank with sand paper". So i will have to have the "newly rebuilt" motor taken 60 over and honed, crank reground, block decked, cleaned, freeze plugs installed, cam bearings installed, heads milled all to a grand total of $610 in just machining on what was supposed to be a good motor... my butt was pretty sore after that phone call haha jk
